Welcome
Welcome to our strategy engagement Hub. A strategy is our shared direction for the future, where we're heading and how we'll get there together. This new strategy willfocus on how we can work together to improve health and wellbeing for everyone living in Highland, Argyll and Bute.
To create a healthy society, we need all the building blocks of health in place. Healthcare - the work done in hospitals, GP practices, and care settings - is important, but it's only one part of what keeps us healthy. The bigger part comes from the building blocks of health in our everyday lives. These are things like stable jobs with good pay, access to education and a home that’s warm.
This means that to improve health, we need to work beyond traditional healthcare and influence all the things that shape people's chances for healthy lives. Creating healthier communities means we need to work together with others including you.
We know that health needs are becoming more complicated. Over the next 20 years, we expect large increases in cancers, heart disease, and dementia. We also know thatsome groups of people in our communities are more likely to become ill or die earlier. If we act now, together we can create conditions to prevent ill health for as many people as possible.
It is important that we understand and build our strategy based on the needs of people living in Highland, Argyll and Bute. By taking part, you can help us to make sure this happens. This strategy is our chance to create conditions for a healthier future for everyone in the NHS Highland area.
Thank you
