Welcome
Welcome to our engagement hub for our developing strategy. A strategy is our shared direction for the future, where we're heading and how we'll get there together. This new 10 yearstrategy will build on our learning andsuccess fromTogether We Care, andfocus on how we can work together to prevent people in Highland, Argyll and Bute becoming unwell.
We know that health needs are becoming more complicated.Over the next 20 years, we expect large increases in cancers, heart disease, and dementia. We also know that poorer people in ourcommunities are more likely to become ill or die earlier. This is not what we wish for our communities in Highland, Argyll and Bute.If we act now, together we can create a health system that focuses on preventing ill health for everyone.
Creating healthier communities means we have to think about workingwith others who have a role to play. Healthcare - the work done in hospitals, GP practices, and care settings - is important, but it's only one part of what keeps us healthy. The bigger part comes from the building blocks of health in our everyday lives. These are things like where we live, whether we can afford to heat our homes and buy healthy food; our connections with family, friends and neighbours; access to learningopportunities and meaningful work and our surroundings.
This means that to improve health, we need to work beyond traditional healthcare and influence all the things that shape people's chances for healthy lives.
