Future of care homes in Argyll and Bute

We are reviewing the different types of housing and care support that people may need as they get older. This includes options such as supported living and care homes. Our goal is to create a long-term plan for accommodation and care services across Argyll and Bute.
To do this, we want to understand what matters most to people. We would like to hear your views about where and how you would like to live in the future, and what support you might need as your circumstances change.
Social care services across Scotland are under increasing pressure. People are living longer, which means more people need care and support. At the same time, it is becoming harder to recruit and keep social care staff, making it more difficult to meet demand.
The unique circumstances of our rural and island communities can make it more challenging to provide services and it is also essential that future services reflect local needs and deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
The HSCP is committed to developing a sustainable model of care that can meet future demand for residential care and support. This includes ensuring that care home facilities are fit for the future, responsive to community needs, and capable of delivering high-quality care for generations to come.
Working with Argyll and Bute Council and other partners, we are looking at how care services should be provided in the future.
As part of this work, the HSCP has carried out a detailed review of its care homes and services. This found a number of challenges, including a shortage of care home places in the future if demand continues to grow over the next 20 years.
We are now looking at how people's care needs may change over time. Using population data and feedback from local people, partners, and stakeholders, we will plan services that meet future needs, make the best use of available resources, and remain sustainable.
Now we want to hear from you. This engagement programme gives you the chance to help shape the future of care services in Argyll and Bute. We welcome your ideas, views, and feedback.
There are several ways to get involved. You can attend a local drop-in event, join an online session, or complete a survey and other feedback activities. Please download our project poster and display it in your communities to help more people to put their views forward. Information about how to register for the online event in October will be shared closer to the date.
