FAQs
What type of care assessment does this proposal affect?
The types of assessments which are considered are non-residential, residential and variations of care needs for adults.
Learning and physical disability care assessment is outwith the scope of this consultation.
What if my care needs are assessed as more than 25 hours?
If your care needs are assessed as more than 25 hours we will work with you to look at the best care for you. This may require us to consider a residential care placement, however we will work with you on an individual basis to get the right outcome for you.
Does this affect my nursing or other health care?
Lots of people in communities have a social care package and also have nursing, other health, family or other sector input such as befriending.
Your nursing or other health care input meets a different need and will not be affected.
Does this affect carers short breaks?
No, unpaid carer's are protected by legislation and funded separately from social care. You can find out more in our Carer's Strategy. We would encourage you to reach out to you local Carers Centre if you are an unpaid carer and have not yet had a carer's assessment.
How does this affect care on islands or remote mainland?
We would like your feedback on how this would affect care to help inform our impact assessment. We know the impact on the delivery of care but we want to find out more about the impact for our remotest communities. We have a survey and will have an online session which you will be able to attend. Please click subscribe for updates to dates.
How much does care at home cost?
We have listed the cost of care at home and residential care in the documents section of this site.
Why is there a shortage of care at home staff?
Care at home is paid at a national rate, however in remote and rural areas it can often be more expensive to deliver care due to the requirement for travel. We know some locations have full employment, more competitive hourly rates for other employment and a limited working age population. We don't fully know all the reasons why there is a shortage of work force and would like your feedback.
Are there job opportunities available?
We have what is called a mixed economy of provision - some in house but mostly comissioned independent sector providers. Our Facebook page will advertise all provider job opportunities.
Training is offered.
How will this impact on the whole system of health and social care?
Social Care is very important in ensuring that we avoid unnecessary admission to hospital for the frailest in our communities and ensure that people return safely home as soon as they are fit to do so.
We would monitor any change closely and this would be alongside the operational changes we are making.
