It is important for NHS Highland to collect equalities data to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and equally. We know that there are inequalities in health and having good quality information can help us to understand which groups experience disadvantage.

It can also help us examine and address the underlying causes of these inequalities and helps us to make sure that people from disadvantaged groups or areas are involved in the planning and delivery of health and care services.

Improving health and care services.

Sometimes we ask for your personal details, which may include equalities information. We do this to better understand your needs to ensure we plan and deliver engagement opportuntities that best meet your needs. This helps to ensure that the views and experience of disadvantaged groups are heard and form part of our decision making processes for health and care services.

Why do we ask about equalities data?

Collecting accurate data enables us to:

  • monitor our activities on this platform to highlight who is or is not using them
  • understand peoples experience and health in relation to specific groups
  • plan action to tackle inequalities in health and who we are reaching to seek views
  • measure progress on reducing inequalities in health through involving more people from disadvantaged groups in engagement activities
  • plan new ways to involve people, and tailor existing ways to meet peoples needs
  • meet our legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010
