Engagement Summary Report Published

The Highland Health Board Endowment Funds charity is pleased to publish the Burall Legacy Fund Engagement Summary Report, which shares the ideas and priorities voiced by the Badenoch and Strathspey community on how Theresa Burall’s legacy could support local health and wellbeing.

Through surveys, local events in Aviemore and Kingussie and targeted outreach, we heard from a wide cross-section of the community. Every suggestion has helped build a strong evidence base that will guide charity Trustees and NHS Highland colleagues in shaping future investments from the fund for the local population.

One message came through clearly: support for older adults is a top priority. Community feedback highlighted the vital role of our day centres and residential and nursing homes who are providing aged care and dementia support, respite, and therapeutic activities. There were also calls for practical improvements to facilities and outdoor spaces.

In response, Trustees have committed an initial £50,000 to support four local facilities, with a first focus on the Wade Centre and Mains House in Badenoch. Further opportunities are also being explored at Grant House and the Glen Centre, with the latter providing day care services for residents from Badenoch.

This first allocation marks the beginning of a wider programme. Over the coming months, the charity will continue working with NHS Highland and community partners to explore investment in mental health, green health initiatives, and projects that improve access to health and wellbeing activities. Future funding decisions will be guided by both the report and ongoing dialogue with the community.
